With the weather warming up, you may find yourself spending more time outdoors. There are so many advantages to getting outside with your pup in the spring and summer (plus it’s lots of fun!) but it also means you have a bigger chance of running into the dog odor We recommend making a skunk shampoo for dogs with ingredients you likely already have at home so you can get your pooch back to perfection ASAP. It’s actually really simple!.

Hint: They’re black and white and have the power to spray STINKY oil on possible threats.

As you’ve probably guessed, we’re talking about skunks

If your dog gets sprayed by a skunk, you have a few different options…

You can go the old tomato juice bath route but then your dog is, well, covered in tomato juice. Plus, we’ve heard this leads to limited success

If you planned ahead, you could use store-bought dog shampoo specifically made for skunk spray, but then you’d have to shell out money for something you (hopefully) won’t need to use very often. You also can’t control what’s in it.

🐕Next Steps

After you mix the ingredients, simply pop on some rubber gloves and rub the shampoo all over your dog’s fur. Then rinse it off!

It’s important to remember that you shouldn’t leave the mixture on too long or the peroxide may bleach the fur. Also, make sure you don’t get any of it in your pup’s eyes.

Once the shampoo is rinsed off, towel dry your dog and then let him or her air dry somewhere warm and sunny.

By now, your dog should be smelling fresher — closer to how he or she normally smells. If not, you can repeat the process.

When you’re done, don’t forget to reward your furry BFF with a yummy, healthy treat for being such a good girl or boy throughout this dreadful process.

Of course, the best way to keep your dog free of skunk spray is to keep an eye out for the little buggers and stay at least 15 feet away. If that’s not realistic, you have our skunk shampoo for dogs recipe… but we hope you never have to use it!

Stay healthy, stay happy, stay curious #healthygang!
