3 Ways to Celebrate International Dog Day

Okay, yes, every day is a special day when you have a dog! But on August 26, International Dog Day, you’ve got a great excuse to do something special for your furry friend.

Read on for 3 great ways to treat your dog on International Dog Day (or any day of the year!).

🧼 Let them get dirty

If you know your dog is due for a bath, why not let them jump in that puddle – just this once?

If you spend a lot of time steering your pup away from muddy fields, garden beds, and other messy situations, find an opportunity to let them roll around and have fun. Just have the hose ready!

🎁 Upgrade their treats

Invest in some healthy and high-quality treats for your pup. Pick up something new to you both, or get an old favourite you only break out on a special occasion.

We recommend our best-selling line of Booster treats (Gut Booster is a crowd favorite!), packed with unique superfoods and bursting with drool-worthy flavour. They can be used as a treat or meal topper to give that extra kick and nutrition to your dog’s bowl.

If you want to stick to limited ingredients but still want a high-reward treat, try the Beef Lung, which is packed with protein and iron, or Sweet Potato for a dog who really loves to chew.

And if you love to DIY, you can make homemade dog treats. Try these crunchy treats for healthy teeth or these frozen minty treats for fresher breath. (A treat for you too!)

🐶 Surprise them with a new toy

Pick out a fun new toy for your pup – maybe a chew toy to go to town on, or a new stuffed buddy to cuddle with in the dog bed.

If your dog is high energy or needs a lot of mental stimulation, consider a toy like a squeaky squirrel log or a snuffle mat. Look for something that encourages your dog's natural behaviours, like foraging or digging, or gives them a problem to solve.

❓ #DYK?

International Dog Day was founded in 2004 by Colleen Paige, a pet and lifestyle expert and dog trainer. Colleen created the day to promote adoption from dog shelters and rescue organizations. International Dog Day celebrates dogs of all kinds, both purebred and mixed-breed.
